Sutton brings a ton of skill and a lunch pail type mindset to the Cardinals defense. It’s come to practice or a game ready to compete and accomplish the mission.
Friday night Calvert Hall opens conference-play against top seeded St. Frances Academy at home under the lights. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Ricardo Report’s Baltimore reporter Tom Peace caught up with Mr. Sutton and got his thoughts on several topics.
Reggie Sutton Featured Stdn Ath Q&A:
Tom Peace: How does it feel playing for Calvert Hall and Coach Davis?
Reggie Sutton: It’s great playing for Calvert Hall and especially Coach Davis. He goes out of his way to make practices not only challenging, but fun with the competition periods and it sets the tone every day. I’m grateful that I could be apart of his 100th win and his great legacy.
Peace: What do you enjoy the most about this game?
Sutton: I love the physicality of the game and how it takes a strong collective effort to win games.
Peace: Now that you’ve committed to Rutgers, does there feel like a weight is off your shoulders and you can now just focus on football?
Sutton: Committing before the season was always part of my plan, so that I can just focus on the season and enjoy my last ride with my brothers.
Peace: How long have you been playing organized football?
Sutton: I’ve been playing football since I was 5.
Peace: What made you verbally commit to Rutgers?
Sutton: I felt Rutgers was the best fit for me, academically and from an athletic standpoint. They want to maximize all of my athletic capabilities and I feel that with the networking opportunities allotted, and the prospect of being able to fully showcase my abilities made me commit.
Peace: Can you explain what it feels like to play in the MIAA A conference?
Sutton: The MIAA A conference is great. Every week it’s a challenge, no matter who you play and what the record is. This conference is loaded with great players that will excel at the next level, and it definitely prepares you for college competition.
Peace: What are the team goals this season?
Sutton: We want to take the season week by week and not look past anyone. The team wants to go 1-0 every week, make a run in the playoffs and then finish off the year with a win in the Turkey Bowl.
Peace: Chipotle or Qdoba?
Sutton: Easily Qdoba.
Peace: What are you current listening to on your iTunes?
Sutton: I’m still trying to catch up with all of the albums and mixtapes that dropped last week, but right now I’m listening to Kodak Black & Lil Uzi’s latest projects.
Peace: Is it your dream to go pro?
Sutton: Going pro has always been a dream of mine.
