On Saturday, the DMV Academy was able to overpower a game Montgomery County Bearcats team. The Bearcats played hard throughout, despite being the smaller of the two squads. That said, in the end, they were overwhelmed by the size and speed displayed by the Academy.
The opening Academy score was set up by and interception by Davouz Johnson. The turnover led to DMV Quarterback, Brian Jester throwing a beautiful touchdown strike to Wide Receiver, Jalen Huskey. The next touchdown came when Damonte Jones plunged into the end zone to give the Academy a 12-0 lead and the icing on the cake was applied by one, De’Angelo Dickerson. Dickerson was dazzling throughout, albeit while showing off his game-breaking skills as a runner or his ball skills as a DB.
Though many players from each team played well, Dickerson was named game MVP for his stellar all around play. Dickerson has excellent size and speed. Not only is he a punishing hitter in the defensive secondary, but he also shows range, cover and ball skills. He’s not the type of player the opposition should make a habit of testing. On offense, he is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He’s a one cut runner with power and a mean streak that makes him far more liable to seek out contact than run out-of-bounds.
All-in-all, Dickerson has the kind of game that should readily translate at the next level. So long as he maintains his academics and continues to grow and develop as a young man, there is little doubt that the top High School programs in the area will be knocking down the door for his services.
